As I cuddled my 6-month-old, my partner asked me what I wanted for my birthday. We decided to not go out of town to save money, and I thought about what I really wished for more than anything else.
In summary, I asked to film our forest shots for Healing Hearth, the Reiki-Infused Performance Treatment short film that we’re producing together; construct a makeshift studio in our house for recording our podcasts and voice-over, and for some really yummy tuna sandwiches that he makes for dinner. They were his best ones yet with his homemade honey mustard that he just discovered today.
They were delicious.
Filming and frolicking in the woods while channeling Reiki felt about as peaceful and natural as I expected it to. We took the first take of our opening shot a few nights ago. Since that one takes its toll on me, we decided to retake it after we filmed the rest. We’re filming me with the sunrise tomorrow morning, dancing on the shore of High Rock Lake.
I wish to spread love and light as far as I can to as many people who need it. I wish I had the resources to open non-profits that could better the world and offer more support, so I’ll start with what I can do. I’ll work harder and smarter!
Today, I asked my partner, TJ, if we could talk about our dreams. One of the magnetic reasons that brought us together was our shared entrepreneurial dreams for the future. Our dreams of eco-villages, non-profits, small charity groups, and all of them in various industries…we grew up dreaming of the same world and playing the same games on opposite sides of the United States, him on the west coast and me on the east. Even 4 years apart in age, our connection lit up our lives as if we’ve known each other through every lifetime since the beginning. If I ever had a twin flame that I would want to live and dream with for eternity, it would be TJ.
Not forgetting the beautiful child he blessed me with, of course.
So today, we dreamed. I’m launching my business and blog. We’re in production for our first collaborative film.
Personally, I always loved stage performance more than film, but his own love of filmography inspired me. Watching Reiki practitioners on Instagram and TikTok inspired me. We discovered that the philosophers and artists in our hearts were alike
When I became a Reiki Master, there was no Reiki video content that I can recall. When COVID arose and quarantine put theater activities on hiatus, I experienced some filming in addition to what I experienced at community college, helping fellow students with their film projects.
What else did I ask for? I asked my cheerleader mama, who I’ll call Aqua since she’s an Aquarius, for the beautiful logo you see on my site. The talented Ms. Mesha Ent designed the logo for me, and I’ll definitely go back to her when I expand the business!
My sister bought me a wheelbarrow to start our family homestead. My dad bought little Jace some sock shoes for when he learns to walk. My dear friends gave me feedback and love. I couldn’t be more grateful for the people who light up my life, or the shadows through which I’ve traveled to appreciate them.
People might find it odd that my birthday wish is to talk about and pursue my dreams. I wish everyday could be like today, but not each day can be filled with hope and light. I’ve certainly had birthdays that could have been better, but today is different. Today, I’ve made a choice.
To be myself, beyond what any label or box could contain, to be my highest self possible, no matter how many times I fall and have to stand back up.
Once upon a time, in a faraway snow-filled land, I wanted to disappear from existence as I lived out of a van named Skiddo. I was born May 31 at 9:44 pm, and today…I’m grateful and so happy to be alive.
I’m going to keep growing and keep climbing until I have built the foundation for my family and myself and eventually my community that I wish to see in this world. “We but mirror the world,” Gandhi said. Modernity translated it to: be the change.
Caring for my health and wellness, addressing them, and then changing my lifestyle to reflect my heart have led me to today. I will post daily, save an illness or emergency, at 9:44 pm EST. That’s when I was born, so it seems as good a time as any.
I hope you might be inspired or gain insight or a laugh, as I share my writing and healing journey. In 2018, today became National Smile Day. I couldn’t think of a more wonderful holiday to be my birthday.
